What is the PROTECTOR® theory?

The PROTECTOR® utilizes a series of staged electronics, which are linked actively and encapsulated in a special electro-chemical compound. This type of set-up for electronic components is also known as a Hybrid Network. The chemical compound acts like a super heat sink absorbing/ dissipating most of the surge energy internally as heat. Since the power absorption is done within the chemical compound and not by the electronics, there is no breakdown or deterioration of any of the active components. The PROTECTOR® has a number of outstanding qualities. Here are just a few that are independent of voltage rating: an ability to withstand numerous surges in a series without degradation or breakdown, a response time of less than one nanosecond, tight nominal clamping levels, low internal capacitance, sine wave tracking and EMI/RFI filtering capabilities, low let-through voltages, and high peak surge currents.

Advantages of the PROTECTOR®

Hermetic Sealing- All integrated circuits and electronic components are protected in this manner. This provides protection from moisture, high altitude effects, dirt, fungus, corrosive gases, corrosion, and other service conditions. Superior High Voltage Rating- The PROTECTOR® is utility proven and recommended in oil field applications. They have stood up to 200,000 volt testing with low let-through voltage repeatability. The PROTECTOR® took these numerous "hits" and did not degrade. Superior Mechanical Strength- The PROTECTOR's® encapsulation system provides superior mechanical strength and integrity. The net effect is high tensile strength, superior shock and vibration resistance. Superior Thermal Properties- The PROTECTOR's® encapsulation system provides enhanced thermal transfer characteristics yielding more improved thermal energy transfers and thermal stability while reducing hot spots and thermal shock. The electronics of a surge suppressor are subject to a constant barrage of surges, spikes, and impulses. The effect of this barrage will cause mechanical expansion and contraction to occur. These expansion and contraction cycles stress the components. Fatigue failures occur as cracks are propagated under this thermally induced stress. With the PROTECTOR's® encapsulation system these problems are virtually eliminated. We are all subject to the same laws of nature!

What About Product Credibility?

Documented tests have been performed on the PROTECTOR® by consumers, universities, independent testing laboratories, and various governmental agencies. Among these are Ford Motor Company, 3M, REDA Pump, Amoco, Westinghouse, General Electric, and White Oaks Testing Facility. All of the satisfied customers of the PROTECTOR® attest to it's superior quality and performance characteristics. The PROTECTOR® has also attained UL and CSA listing, met the provisional standards, ANSI/IEEE C62.41 category A,B,C. We have also accomplished dynamic testing on high energy units (voltages above 1000V AC).

What About Lightning Protection?

We have experienced numerous direct lightning hits on the PROTECTOR®. To date, we have no documented failures of equipment downstream of the PROTECTOR®, properly installed , after a lightning strike. The PROTECTOR® has an uncanny ability to sacrifice itself, but protect all equipment downstream. Please take a moment to look over our list of some of our satisfied customers. We have on file published testimonials from certain customers who were so satisfied with the PROTECTOR's® performance, they couldn't help but share their experience with us. We are always looking for more scenarios in which the PROTECTOR® has provided effective surge suppression for our customers. If you know of a situation where the PROTECTOR® has saved downtime or loss of productions, please call us to let us know 888.722.3420
